MUMBAI: “Ungli dabake anghoota laga dungi”. The adorable girl in the Bollywood children’s movie, Makdee, that’s how we all remember Shweta Basu Prasad.
Now, in a shocking revelation, the Tollywood actress has been arrested in a high profile prostitution racket in Hyderabad. It has been reported that police arrested Shweta from a reputed hotel at Banjara Hills in Hyderabad.
According to The Times of India, Shweta, 23, who has acted in other Bollywood films and popular TV serials such as Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, was arrested by the police after they caught her in a compromising position with a businessman.
According to sources, all arrested people were very well-known businessmen from Mumbai and other metro cities of the country. Shweta was in the business knowingly.
Shweta Basu Prasad started her career as a child actress in Hindi films and television series and went on to play lead roles in Bengali,Telugu and Tamil cinema. For her performance in the 2002 film Makdee, she won the national award for best child artist.
In 2005, she starred in the film Iqbal, which propelled her to mini stardom. Her performance as Khadija in the film fetched her several accolades including the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 5th Karachi International Film Festival. She also acted in Ram Gopal Varma’s Darna Zaroori Hai as Ashu.
In 2008, she debuted in Telugu cinema and played her first starring role in the film Kotha Bangaru Lokam, co-starring Varun Sandesh. The film became a large commercial success. She has starred in several other Tollywood films such as Nuvvekkadunte Nenakkadunta, Priyudu and Punnami Rathri.
Shweta was recently in the news for directing and producing a documentary film called Roots. She started the film three years back and it’s almost complete. Now, the actress is acting in and co-producing a Hindi short film called INT. Café–Night, directed by Adhiraj Bose.
“The film features me along with Naveen Kasturia, Shernaaz Patel and Naseeruddin Shah. This is my second film with Naseer uncle as a co-star and I am very excited,” Shweta had said recently in an interview.
All the businessmen caught in a compromising position, along with the actress, were taken to a local police station following the raid on Sunday, August 31, said the Times. A pimp, who has been identified as Balu, is also in police custody.
