BANGALORE: Technopark, the IT campus in Thiruvananthapuram, transformed into a dance floor as CEOs from 30 different technology firms danced to the tune of rocking film songs as part celebrating of Daan Utsav – the ‘Festival of Giving.’
Employees were taken by surprise when they saw their busy bosses swirling, gyrating, and cheering, leaving behind their busy schedules. The Bhavani building of Technopark literally became a dance floor as more employees joined their bosses in dancing.
Among the CEO’s who took to the floor was K G Girish Babu, the CEO of Technopark. He said “We wanted to attract the attention of all of the 40,000 plus employees in Technopark, to this noble cause, which is the reason the CEOs themselves, hit the dance floor. I hope the message of ‘Joy of Giving’ is embraced by the larger society too.”
Daan Utsav celebrations were officially launched in 2009; with people celebrating it every year during the seven days starting from Gandhi Jayanti. This festival brings together Indians from all walks of life, to celebrate “giving”.
This year Technopark and GTech, an Industrial body of IT/ITes companies collaborated to bring the Daan Festival to Kerala’s IT Industry. As part of Daan Festival, these organizations are conducting fund raising programs, exploring different ways for giving happiness to less privileged fellow citizens.
The event in Technopark also showcased fun games such as CEO Bashing where employees got a chance to drench their bosses by throwing water-soaked-sponge bricks. The takers of the challenge paid Rs. 100 for each throw, which will go for charity.
The Secretary of GTech, Anoop P Ambika said, “This is a fun and spirited way of raising funds for a noble cause. The response to all activities has been overwhelming and shows that the IT workers will go all out to support the needy. All CSR initiatives of GTech have been very well received by the community”.
The organizers of the Daan Utsav also organized a photography contest via Facebook based on the theme ‘Joy of Giving’. The celebrations also saw children from a nearby care home visiting Technopark. These children were joined by the employees of various tech companies in Technopark for pot-painting and making crafts, which were later sold inside the park.
