Move over Riteish Deshmukh.

MUMBAI: There was a time when Shah Rukh Khan made a name for himself and entrenched himself in the industry by doing negative roles, in films like Baazigar and Darr. But he was also played the character of a handsome young man in those films, aching for love, but getting pain, and inflicting pain and revenge on others.
Cut to 2014: and what do we have? A middle aged man, married and tied up in the vicious cycle of domestic life, who when harangued by his wife, takes up manic ways to curb depression. Most men would just grin and bear it, live on in a morose way; but not the character played by Riteish Deshmukh in Ek Villain – he turns to murder to show his negative side, hacks down women.
And true to the season’s flavor, now comes yet another villain in the shape of the good old romantic comedian of yesteryears: Govinda.
Yash Raj Films’s (YRF) film Kill Dil (believed to be an adaptation of Tarantino’s Kill Bill) will have Govinda showing his histrionics in shades of evil black. But surprisingly, the badshah of comedy, who had a winning smile plastered to his face even as he danced and romanced wildly, seems to care not one bit about this massive makeover.
“I wasn’t sure that I would be able to do this role because I had to play a hardcore villain in the film. But my wife Sunita said, ‘Take up work that comes your way. Don’t sit at home, go out. Don’t wait for your films to get released,” said Govinda, after a trailer of the film was released. “Their (YRF’s) presentation can never go wrong, they present even a villain like a hero. So I was like, ‘Yeh achha villain hai bhai, jo hero ki tarah lag raha hai’ (This is a good villain, who looks like a hero).”
Directed by Shaad Ali, Kill Dil also stars Ranveer Singh, Ali Zafar and Parineeti Chopra in lead roles.
