Bollywood is an industry of extravaganza when it comes to producing films and grossing collections. Year after year Bollywood movies are fighting to break the record to claim the position of the highest grossing film. Last year we saw a few Bollywood movies hitting the Rs. 300 crore ($48 million) mark. Here are the five top-grossing Bollywood films of 2014.
#1 PK

PK had a very quiet start in the first day of release, largely because people think of Mr. Perfectionist – Aamir Khan as an emotional actor, compared to his Khan counterparts Shah Rukh and Salman who are epitome of style and macho (at least for now). But as the film reached the third week, it has become the top grossing Hindi movie ever with over Rs. 620 crore ($97 million) worldwide collection till now.
#2 Kick
In no way can the list of the top-grossing Bollywood movies end up without a Salman Khan movie. Kick featuring Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Randeep Hooda in the lead role and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, playing the anti-hero had a budget of Rs. 100 crores ($16 million) and till now has earned Rs. 377 crore (US$59 million) to become the second highest grossing Bollywood movie of 2014.
#3 Happy New Year
Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan have always had differences for a few years and have been in silent competition with each other. Last year, the goddess of victory shined on Salman as King Khan’s Happy New Year went down to the third spot against of Salman’s Kick in the list of top grossing Hollywood movies with Rs. 370 crore ($58 million).
#4 Bang Bang!
Bollywood is the only film industry in India that can afford to successfully remake a Hollywood million dollar movie. Last year we saw Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif in Siddharth Anand’s Bang Bang!, which was a remake of the Hollywood film ‘Knight and Day’ starringTom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. Even though this Rs. 130 crore film received mixed reactions from the audiences, it went on to become the fourth top-grossing movie of 2014 with Rs. 340 crore ($53 million) collection.
#5 Singham Returns
It is not always that a Malayalam movie gets a Bollywood remake—unless it is directed by Priyadarshan. But Singham Returns is an exception, as directed by Rohit Shetty, came forward to remake a 1993 Malayalam movie named Ekalavyan, which was known for its thunderous dialogues scripted by Renji Panicker. This Rs. 112.5 crores remake movie earned Rs 205 crores ($32 million) and is in the fifth position of the top grossing Hindi movies of 2014.
