WASHINGTON, DC: PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi will be the keynote speaker and guest of honor and tennis champion and philanthropist Vijay Amritraj will serve as the chief guest at the organization Chetna’s 10th annual fundraising gala in Addison, Texas, on April 25.
‘The Power of 10’ will celebrate a decade of community service by Chetna. Ann Mukherjee, PepsiCo’s President of Global Snacks, will emcee the gala, which will take place at the InterContinental Hotel.
“South Asians have a tendency to turn a blind eye to controversial issues that affect our community as a whole,” said Chetna co-founder Anu Agarwal, in a statement. “When such prolific and outspoken figures stand behind our cause and show their support, it sheds a whole new light on domestic violence. It somehow makes it acceptable to address the epidemic and celebrate the strides we have made in the last decade to provide services to the hundreds of Dallas-Fort Worth women and children who have been suffering.”
In 2014, Chetna (www.chetna-dfw.org), which means “consciousness” in Sanskrit, provided life-saving resources to more than 200 women and children trying to escape their abusive relationships.
The non-profit organization’s services to the community include: confidential helpline; peer support; emergency shelter and transitional housing; legal and counseling referrals; community outreach; financial assistance, such as interest-free loans; rental assistance; advocacy; and employment assistance.
