BENGALURU: Actor Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput tied the knot on Tuesday in a grand Punjabi marriage ceremony held in Gurgaon, which was attended by his friends and family members.
According to a close relative of Shahid, the marriage ceremony was held during the morning hours of Tuesday and only a very few guests were invited for the function which was held not in the hotel that was reported earlier.
Sources confirmed that only close to 30-40 members attended the ceremony held at a relative’s house where Mira, 21, an undergraduate student and Shahid Kapoor, 34, the Bollywood hunk took vow to live together ever after.
Soon after the marriage, Shahid posted a photograph of him posing with Mira on Instagram.
The wedding reception will be held at the Oberoi Hotel in Gurgaon later on Tuesday where close to 500 guests are expected to show up.
The traditional Punjabi wedding ceremony started on the fifth and since then the guests have been flowing into the Trident hotel in Gurgaon. The sangeet ceremony before the wedding took place on Monday night where both Shahid and Mira were seen together dancing for a hit number of the actor.
The couple will host a grand party for the Bollywood fraternity on July 12, which is expected to be attended by big shots of the industry. The presence of Shahid’s ex-girlfriend Kareena Kapoor and her husband Saif Ali Khan is the most sought after one at the event.
The wedding card of the national award-winning actor, filled with goodies, had earlier leaked online. It also had a note written towards the end saying “No gifts please. Only blessings.”
The wedding outfit of Shahid Kapoor was designed by his designer friend Kunal Rawal while Anamika Khanna did the same for Mira.
According to some media houses, the couple might miss their early honeymoon due to Shahid’s busy schedules but some time later during the year the couple are expected to visit a honeymoon destination somewhere in Europe.
Thirty-something old Indian actors getting married to much younger women are not that uncommon though. Last year, the Malayalam actor Fahad Faisal, 32, got married to popular co-actor of Malayalam and Tamil films, Nazriya Nazim, who was 19 when she got married. That marriage was fixed by their parents.
Shahid’s family first met Mira during a religious function organised by a religious group called Radha Soami Satsang. His father, Pankaj Kapoor, is a devotee, and so are Rajput’s parents.
