WASHINGTON, DC: The East-West Center has announced the appointment of six 2015 Asia Studies Fellows, including three Indian Americans, at the East-West Center in Washington.
The fellowship provides residence of three or six months at the East-West Center in Washington to scholars and analysts who wish to undertake policy-relevant research and writing on topics of relevance to contemporary US-Asia policy, including diplomatic, politico-security, and economic issues.
The following fellows will be in three month-residencies between June and December of this year:
- Surupa Gupta is an Associate Professor at the University of Mary Washington in the Department of Political Science and International Affairs. Her research topic is Indispensable Partners: US-India Relations and the Domestic Politics of Farm Trade and Intellectual Property Rights.
- Nong Hong is the Director of Research at the Center for Oceans Law & Policy at the National Institute for South China Sea Studies (NISCSS) in Hainan, China. Her research topic is China-US Maritime Cooperation Mechanism: Exploring the Divergence and Convergence.
- Saori Katada is an Associate Professor at the University of Southern California in the School of International Relations. Her research topic is Japan’s Foreign Economic Policy at a Crossroads: TPP, AIIB and the Future of Asia’s Regional Governance.
- Rahul Mishra is a Research Fellow at the Indian Council of World Affairs in New Delhi, India. His research topic is China’s One Belt, One Road Initiative: Implications for the US and India.
- James Platte is a Non-Resident Sasakawa Peace Foundation Fellow at the Pacific Forum CSIS. His research topic is Strengthening Nuclear Safety Cooperation in Northeast Asia.
- Vibhanshu Shekhar is a Scholar-in-Residence at the ASEAN Studies Center at American University. His research topic is Indonesia’s Maritime Vision: Implications for US-Indonesia Strategic Engagement.
Fellows are offered round-trip travel to Washington, DC, and are supported through residence at the East-West Center in Washington. In addition to a publication of an article or monograph on their research topic, fellows give one public seminar during their residency.
