The United States and India can build fighter aircraft jointly to address the latter’s critical shortage of frontline fighter aircraft, suggested the American Ambassador in New Delhi, Richard Verma.
Speaking at the Observer Research Foundation in Delhi, Richard Verma said, “defense cooperation can help to counter this challenge and I see no reason why the US and India can’t produce fighter aircraft together”.
Speaking about the new developments in bilateral military ties, Verma noted that these combined efforts can enhance the freedom of navigation in the open seas and skies, reinforce international law, and can demonstrate the commitment to the US-India Joint Strategic Vision for the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean Region.
He said that the US has committed itself to deepening its maritime and security relationship with India across all sectors.
Space security and cooperation
Remembering ex-president Abdul Kalam’s commitment to deepen Indo-US space cooperation, Verma said that both the nations have only scratched the surface of what can be accomplished in space.
“Partnering on space-based climate research and weather stations to better forecast weather patterns, water supply, and climactic disasters can provide immense benefits to farmers and citizens living in coastal regions” he added.
