The Tilak Nagar eve-teasing case took an unlikely turn today when the accused alleged that the Delhi university student who registered a case is an AAP supporter with publicity motives.
The incident leading to the arrest of Sarvjeet Singh took place on Sunday when Jasleen Kaur, a DU student posted his photo on Facebook complaining that the Sarvjeet abused her at a traffic island while she was crossing the road.
Sarveet Singh alias Sunny who is out on bail, today told the reporters that Jasleen is an active supporter of AAP and is accusing him for getting political mileage and fame. His mother said that her son is innocent and Jasleen is using him as bait to extend her political connections.
Delhi police had arrested Sarveet Singh on Monday, slapping sexual harassment and criminal intimidation charges against him. They took the photo posted against him on Facebook as primary evidence.
Congratulate @jasleenkaur89 for her bravery. Girls of Delhi should follow her & speak up against such unacceptable acts
— Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal) August 24, 2015
Jasleen’s Facebook post went viral and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is the supremo of AAP on Monday, wrote on his twitter wall: “Congratulate @jasleenkaur89 for her bravery. Girls of Delhi should follow her and speak up against such unacceptable acts,”
Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said, “We go by evidence on record. We have recorded the statement of the girl and on that basis we have filed the case against the accused.” When asked about the statement made by Sarveet Singh, Commissioner said that the investigation will be conducted impartially.
“We are investigating the case without any partiality. For us, it doesn’t matter whether a person belongs to any political party. If a person has broken any law or has committed anything against the law, then we will take action against the culprit,” he added.

Jasleen had on Sunday posted a picture of her alleged abuser on the Facebook wall with a short note that read: “A man made obscene comments at me today (Sunday) at around 8 pm near Aggarwal, Tilak Nagar. He was on a silver Royal Enfield, vehicle number DL 4S CE 3623. When I told him I am clicking his picture and I’m going to file a complaint against him, he responded by posing for a picture and said, “Jo kar sakti hai kar le. Complaint karke dikha, fir dekhiyo kya karta hun main (Do whatever you like. Complain and see what I do then),”
The police arrested Sarvjeet Singh from Tilak Nagar area on Monday and an FIR was registered against him under Section 354(a), 506 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code.
According to Jasleen, more than 20 people were at the traffic junction when Sarvjeet made offensive remarks. She was quoted saying that the inaction of the people made her more depressed than the remarks.
