Imagine you are about to meet a blind date and don’t know the guy or girl. A new app is getting ready to help you know more about that person, before coming face to face.
Peeple, a new app that allows users to rate and search users, is coming to smartphones this November. This app could become a competitor for social media websites like Facebook because a majority of its users are unaware about the kind of person they are dealing with online.
When the app is made available on App Store, users will find it as a useful tool to rate and review human beings; let it be your friends, co-workers or even the love of your life. The app will let users give a rating of 1 to 5 stars for each individual, and those who get the best rating can surely boast about it among their friend circle.
Peeple co-founders Julia Cordray and Nicole McCullough said that the app is aimed at making people feel happy inside and is not a platform to berate others for fulfilling petty personal vendetta. They were quoted by The Washington Post saying “As two empathetic female entrepreneurs in the tech space, we want to spread love and positivity. We want to operate with thoughtfulness.”
The app needs the users to sign up through Facebook profile. This is to avoid users from using fake names. The app can be used only by users who are above 21 years old. One of the controversial features of the new app is the option to add a user without their consent, just by using the cell phone number. Even though they will be notified via a text message, they won’t be able to remove the profile from Peeple.
As of now, the developers say if Peeple users create a profile for others they can only add positive review and in case if someone post any negative review about a third party it can be disputed within 48 hours.
Cordray said to The Washington Post “People do so much research when they buy a car or make those kinds of decisions. Why not do the same kind of research on other aspects of your life?”
Since the development of the new app, the founders have been documenting every step of it and it has been uploaded as a web series called Peeple Watching. The latest part has the title “Peeple If Facebook, LikedIn and Trender have a baby.
According to Cordray, all that matters really is what people say and the likes and dislikes are just scales to measure one’s acceptability in the circle. Some believe that the app will help people to bring changes in their nature and to treat others with respect.
Another person who commented on the Facebook page of Peeple wrote, “It’s like an assessment tool so I can adjust how I deal with people.”
The official website of Peeple read “You have worked so hard to get the reputation you have among the people that know you. As innovators, we want to make your life better and have the opportunity to prove how great it feels to be loved by so many in a public space. We are a positivity app launching in November 2015. Whether you love us or our concept or not; we still welcome everyone to explore this online village of love and abundance for all.”
