In a letter, the crisis-hit German automobile giant has asked the dealers to stop selling the Polo cars with an immediate effect.
“We request, not to physically deliver any Polo vehicle (all variants) with immediate effect till further notice from VW,” the dealers were told.
In an official statement, the company said that this temporary hold was due to some technical reasons and the issue is not connected with the ongoing EA 189 diesel engine issue.
“Volkswagen India has confirmed a temporary hold on deliveries of its carline Polo due to a technical reason which is currently under evaluation. This concerns a limited number of cars out of a specific production period. Volkswagen further confirms that deliveries for the non-impacted Polo range continue as per schedule. Volkswagen would like to clarify that the temporary hold on deliveries is not related to the ongoing EA 189 diesel engine topic”, the statement said.
The world’s largest automobile maker is facing a crisis situation after it was found to have installed emission-test bypassing software on vehicles with EA 189 engines.
While no such practice by the company is established in India yet, Automotive Research Association of India has been ordered by the government to investigate.
