$199 appliance makes perfect dosas.

Desi kitchens in America may soon be getting a major boon borne of technological innovation in the form of the DosaMaker, “the world’s first household dosa appliance.”
Since surpassing their $50,000 Kickstarter goal, Indian American entrepreneur Arvind Krishnan and his Soul of India Cooking Company are gearing up to release the company’s first product: a machine that allegedly makes perfect, authentic dosa every single time.
The DosaMaker is a countertop appliance that cooks batter into crispy dosa. The draw of the DosaMaker is its ease of use and efficiency, especially considering how notoriously difficult and time consuming making dosa by hand can be.
The DosaMaker has a projected retail cost of $199, and its anticipated delivery date will be March 2016.
Krishnan grew up cooking and eating dosas in his Tamil household in Pittsburgh, Penn. His family already runs Nilgiri’s, one of the oldest food businesses in India, and Krishnan inherited a legacy of passion for the culinary arts.
After graduating from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio with a degree in economics, he worked as a consultant, before being struck by the idea for the DosaMaker.
“First generation South Asians who may not be comfortable with making dosas love that they can now make fresh dosas at home and that the DosaMaker is portable and easy-to-clean,” Krishnan told India.com. “The traditional scenario of the mother of the household making dosas for everyone else to eat—and then she is left to eat the dosas, which are usually cold, by herself—is no longer a reality.”
