Information Technology continues to be the industry that showed highest hiring growth in India along with insurance, says a report published by Info Edge that owns India’s biggest job portal Naukri.com.
According to the report, IT sector showed 28 percent growth in hiring in February 2016 over the same period last year. ITES sector also showed 17 percent increase. This impressive growth of hiring activity has been recorded at a time when the overall hiring activity showed only 18 percent growth.
Demand for professionals in IT-Software and ITES grew by 21 percent and 26 percent, respectively.
“As predicted earlier, the job market seems to sustain the momentum gained over the last few quarters and is heading North with 18% growth in February 2016. Looking at the consistency and pace at which the index is moving over the past few months, I am cautiously optimistic that we are on the cusp of a solid growth phase and good times are ahead for job seekers,” said, V. Suresh, Chief Sales Officer, Naukri.com.
Meanwhile, demand for project management professionals continues a declining trend with -16 percent growth recorded in February 2016.
“IT for example, since the US is doing reasonably well, is still kind of good for us. We have not seen manufacturing really firing as much as we would have liked,” Chintan Thakkar, chief financial officer of Info Edge, told NDTV.
“A few weeks back, globally the mood was not so great. That would have had an impact on the mood overall for recruitment. While some of the sectors have been showing more confidence, some of the sectors are in a wait and watch approach,” he added.
All metro cities registered growth in hiring activity in the month of February. Mumbai tops the list with 24 percent growth followed by Delhi (23), Bengaluru (22), and Kolkata (21).
