Russian media giant Dmitry Itskov has ventured into a new project that aims at staying alive forever. The objective of “2045 Initiative†is to develop a robot that can store human personalities and behaves like a person, by 2045.
The scientists and researchers working on the project are confident of creating a robot that behaves like a human being. Itskov has invested $1.43 billion in the project, reported Telegraph.
The scientists believe that human brain works like a computer and can store the personality of a human being. They are aiming to accomplish this by transferring a human consciousness to the robot.
“The ultimate goal of my plan is to transfer someone’s personality into the new artificial carrier. Different scientists call it uploading or they call it mind transfer. I prefer to call it personality transfer,” Itskov said in an upcoming BBC documentary. “If there is no immortality technology, I’ll be dead in the next 35 years,” he added.
The team is planning to create robots that can be controlled by the human brain and send feedback to the controlling brain through an interface. By 2035, a robot that can host human consciousness will be created and a robotic avatar with full human consciousness will be made.
“Eternity is when unlimited creative possibilities are present in life, when there are no limits or boundaries for development, learning, culture and creativity,” Itskov told The SundayTimes.
“I want all of this to be available to every person, including myself. And to a lesser degree, I am motivated by the fear of death and the wish to postpone [that] moment,” he added.
Though the scientific community is debating over the possibility of success, Itskov is fully confident that the venture will succeed and he can live forever.
