A 15-year-old boy from Pathankot, Punjab, died on Sunday after he shot himself in the head while posing for a selfie with his father’s revolver.
Ramandeep, a class IX student, succumbed to the injury at a private hospital in Ludhiana, reported the Press Trust of India.
The incident happened on Friday night when Ramandeep was posing for a selfie using his father’s .32 bore revolver at his home in Shiv Nagar locality. He accidentally pulled the trigger of the revolver which was fully loaded.
“He was trying to take a selfie with the pistol and accidently pushed the trigger. His sister was also there and she raised an alarm,” Ganesh Kumar, a relative was quoted as saying by NDTV.
“We took him to a private hospital but given his serious condition we are taking him to Ludhiana,” he added.
The bullet was stuck in his head when he was taken to the hospital. The boy’s father is a property dealer.
“We got information that a boy has accidently shot himself when we came here family told us that he was trying to take a selfie with his mobile phone. We are investigating the matter,” Manoj Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, told NDTV.
The increasing popularity for taking a selfie in dangerous conditions have caused several lives in India. In February, a teen was killed in Chennai when he tried to take a selfie in front of a moving train.
Another teen was shocked to death in Kerala last year when he was trying to take a selfie from the top of an electric train.
To prevent selfie-related deaths, the Agra division of Government Railway Police (GRP) has come up with a decision to charge those seen taking a selfie near trains.
The Mumbai police have banned taking a selfie in 16 spots in the city.

The teenager had sustained a bullet injury in Pathankot when the .32 bore revolver pointed to his head went off accidentally, while he was taking a selfie from his phone.
STOP LYING, MEDIA!!! Guns rarely ever go off accidentally. Most do go off when the trigger is pulled. That’s not an “accident”. At 15 years old, he is old enough to know not to handle a gun that he obviously knew nothing about. It’s not the gun owner’s fault unless you are an anti gunner of a moron (or both.) That’s like blaming his parents if the kid took the car keys and wrapped it around a tree. There are two words that today’s society hates: P E R S O N A L R E S P O N S I B I L I T Y.
