The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi may meet the winners of the Scripps National Spelling Bee championship during his visit to the US next month.
Though there is no official confirmation of the meeting, sources close to the Prime Minister said that a meeting with the winners of the Spelling Bee, a contest where Indian Americans have been dominating for over a decade, is likely to take place, reported the Press Trust of India.
Last year, Indian Americans Vanya Shivashankar and Gokul Venkatachalam were the winners.
National Spelling Bee will be conducted towards the end of this month in Washington, DC, and Modi will be visiting the US early next month, probably between June 6 and 8. But the White House is yet to make an official announcement of the visit.
Times of India report said that Modi may not have a stadium-style address in the US this time and he may consider meeting the Spelling Bee winners as a unique community outreach program.
Modi has addressed the Indian community in all his previous visits. The Indian community has responded with keen interest and enthusiasm beginning from his address to the community in New York’s Madison Square Garden in September 2014.
Modi has many other appointments in the US, including a joint session of the US Congress, interactions with global CEOs and a meeting of the US-India Business Council and a visit to NASA.
