A photo of a group of girls wearing lungi (a traditional garment worn by men) claimed to be from a college in Kerala is going viral on social media. The people sharing the photo are saying that it was a protest staged by a group of college girls after the college in Kerala banned wearing jeans.
But the reality behind the photo is different. Though the photo is a real one, the rumors surrounding it are not authentic.
The same photo had gone viral in 2015 when Mahesh Babu-starrer Telugu movie ‘Srimanthudu’ released. Then it was reported that the girls were fans of the south-Indian star and they were imitating the lungi-avatar of Babu.
The photo has been shared thousands of time on social media. Many celebrities including hair stylist Sapna Moti Bhavnani and anchor Archana Vijaya also shared the same without checking the authenticity of it.
“After they banned girls from wearing jeans to college #Kerala#feminism #mondaymorning (Taken fr Ram Iyer on #fb). this photo is trending even if nt true,it’s a good slap 2 da moral brigade who say westrn wear is nono 4 Indian Women [sic],” tweeted Sapna Moti Bhavnani.
“A college in Kerala recently banned jeans so these girls lungi-ed it up! Well done! [sic],” wrote Archana Vijaya.
