Pratham USA has appointed former Deloitte executive Manoj Singh to its national board of directors.
Founded in 1995 to ensure that every child is in school and learning well, Pratham is now one of the largest non-governmental organizations in India’s education sector. It uses low-cost, scalable methods and works in partnership with government and community stakeholders to provide quality education to underprivileged children across 20 of India’s 29 states.
Singh spent 36 years in senior leadership positions with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Ltd., including head of Deloitte Consulting in the Americas, CEO of the Asia Pacific region and, since 2007, as chief operating officer.
Handpicked as one of four global managing directors reporting to the global CEO, Singh led client growth in the emerging Asian and African markets and advised global organizations on how to navigate complex business challenges, with a focus on technology, manufacturing and the energy industry, according to a press release.
A longtime Pratham supporter, Singh has become more actively involved with the organization since his retirement from Deloitte in 2015. He is particularly interested in the role technology can play in catalyzing children’s learning.
“I am honored to have been invited to join this passionate group of US supporters,” said Singh, in a statement. “Pratham’s data-driven approach to improving learning for India’s poor is admirable. It will be interesting to see how its application of mobile and tablet technology will affect the organization’s growth and also education in India.”
Singh serves on the business council for the Wildlife Conservation Society and on the board of trustees of the Rubin Museum of Art and Carnegie Mellon University, from which he is a distinguished graduate. A frequent speaker on college campuses, Singh has appeared on Bloomberg, the BBC and CNBC, and was recognized as one of the top 25 consultants in the US by Consulting Magazine.
“Manoj’s illustrious career speaks for itself,” said Pratham USA Chairman Dinyar Devitre, in a statement. “His considerable expertise and experience will no doubt help to advance Pratham’s development and mission. We are thrilled to have him take on a larger role within our organization.”
