When crimes against Muslims in the US is rising in the backdrop of Islamic militant attacks in many parts of the world, US author Hena Khan has come up with popular American children’s book character Curious George breaking fast for Ramadan.
According to a report by AFP, the just released book titled “It’s Ramadan, Curious George” aims to teach children about the holy month of Ramadan through George celebrating the holiday.
The story revolves around the celebrations of George who attends family gatherings and goes to a mosque along with his friend Kareem to collect items for and arranging charity baskets.
“It was really a reflection of the way Americans that I know celebrate and observe Ramadan, in a very simple way that’s understandable for children,” Khan told AFP.
The Pakistani origin writer from Rockville, Maryland, has two children’s books about Islam to her credit. But, according to her, its is something different having Curious George observing the Muslim tradition.
“There’s something different about having Curious George, a mainstream, well-known, iconic character recognizes your tradition and make you feel included,” she was quoted as saying by AFP.
Khan says that the book will help promote and understand tolerance.
