Micro-blogging website Twitter has increased its animated GIF size limit from 5MB to 15 MB if uploaded on the web from a PC and not smartphone.
This web-only upgrade is not available in TweetDeck also, a media report said on Tuesday.
Realizing that the role and impact of graphics interchange format are much more than images, this upgrade seems to be a welcome move from Twitter.
Nowadays, GIF images are widely used to share very-short duration video clips (often with captions) and this allow us to make and share animations with much more ease. Because of limited attention span and time-availability, people are increasingly interested in just the best bits of an event, movie or TV shows that can be easily made available with gif images.
Recently, twitter announced that it will allow users to add virtual stickers to photos. The new photo editing feature will also enable users to add filters, tags and crop the images according to their needs. Twitter also said that it plans to keep on refreshing the sticker library.
Twitter, which previously restricted the length of the videos to 30 seconds, is now allowing users to post videos of up to 140 seconds. The 140-second limit also applies to Vine, Twitter’s video streaming service, which previously had a six-second limit.
