The presumptive Republican nominee for president Donald Trump will have plenty of green tea from India to drink in the White House while hard at work, or even otherwise, if he were to lose to Hillary Clinton and contemplate in misery on what could have been: he has been delivered four years’ worth of green tea from a company in India, with a message that the freebie is to help him “cleanse” his mind.
Kolkata-based tea company TE-A-ME sent 6,000 bags of Assam green tea to Trump, delivered at the Trump Towers in New York.
TE-A-ME expects that the tea would last Trump four years, if he drinks three cups a day. The five-Kg. (11 pound) package was sent with a friendly message that more is available, if he needs it. Of course, hopefully, Trump would be ‘cleansed’ and purged of all his xenophobia and racism that he’s let loose at voters and the people living in America, after 6.000 bags of Green tea.
An online video message TE-A-ME had this to offer: “Dear Mr. Trump, Namaste from India. We are sending you lots and lots of natural green tea. It fights against harmful free radicals. It helps purify mind and body and regain a healthy balance. It has also proven to make people smarter. Please Mr. Trump drink the tea. For your sake, for America’s sake, for the world’s sake.”
It added: “Donald Trump has the whole world worried… we can’t stop him, but maybe we can change him.”
The company said in a note along with the generous shipment delivered by a representative in New York: “I would like to offer you a little something to help you prepare for the task that lies ahead—four years’ supply of TE-A-ME Green Tea. Green tea is packed with goodness and is proven to help achieve well-being and increased productivity,”
TE-A-ME is a signature brand of the 70-year-old Madhu Jayanti International Limited, which claims to sell 10 million tea cups everyday across 42 countries.
“We aren’t doing any sort of marketing gimmick with the attempt,” Sumit Shah, executive director at TE-A-ME explained, according to Quartz. “In fact, we do not even sell in the US. Our focus is on markets such as Europe, West Africa, India and Europe. All we are doing with this campaign is to take a Gandhian and polite approach to urge Trump to detox a little and think clearly.”
Trump’s global fame has meant that others in India have also begun to use his name to find publicity. In June, right-wing group Hindu Sena planned a huge celebration for Trump’s birthday, but the event was mostly a damp squib, with journalists outnumbering fans.
