Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the only national leader of a foreign country to make an appearance in the introduction screened by President Barrack Obama during the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
The 10-minute video that screened ahead of Obama’s speech at the convention covered the important achievements of the Obama administration, including the efforts made by the president to revive the US economy that was reeling under the aftermaths of the 2008 recession that shook the world and the killing of al-Qaeda terrorist Osama Bin Laden.
The image of both the leaders together taken during the Paris Climate Summit was included in the opening video streamed before Obama commenced his speech.
Another notable person appeared in the video was UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon.
By featuring Modi’s image in the video, Obama has once again epitomized the growing bilateral relationship of the two democracies.
Obama had praised Modi when he was selected as one of the 100 most influential people by Time magazine in 2015.
“Determined to help more Indians follow in his path, he’s laid out an ambitious vision to reduce extreme poverty, improve education, empower women and girls and unleash India’s true economic potential while confronting climate change. Like India, he transcends the ancient and the modern—a devotee of yoga who connects with Indian citizens on Twitter and imagines a “digital India,” Obama wrote.
“When he came to Washington, Narendra and I visited the memorial to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We reflected on the teachings of King and Gandhi and how the diversity of backgrounds and faiths in our countries is a strength we have to protect. Prime Minister Modi recognizes that more than 1 billion Indians living and succeeding together can be an inspiring model for the world,” Obama said.
