Three flights a week from Newark and Ahmedabad.
India’s national air carrier Air India launched its flight to Newark, New Jersey from Ahmedabad, Gujarat via London on August 15.
The new flight reduces the travel time to London by three hours. The Dreamliner service (AI-171) will leave Ahmedabad every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5 am from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and reach London at 10.15 am. The return flight AI-172 will leave Newark every Monday, Thursday, and Friday at 22:30 hours and will reach London at 10:15 hours next day. The flight will leave London at 12:30 hours and land at Ahmedabad at 02:00 hours, reported PTI.
The inaugural flight took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 5 am on Monday.
“Air India is happy to start this new flight today. It is a dream fulfilled for the people of Ahmedabad on India’s 70th Independence Day. This is the third international flight introduced by Air India and we shall be launching flights to more international destinations soon,” Air India Chairman and Managing Director Ashnwani Lohani said.
Gujarat Revenue Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, who was the chief guest of the inaugural function, handed over the first boarding pass to a passenger.
“On Sundays, the flight would operate Ahmedabad-London-Ahmedabad only with a Boeing 787- Dreamliner,” Nirbhik Narang, station manager, Air India Ahmedabad told The Times of India.
Air India uses Boeing 787-Dreamliner for the service. The flight has 18 business class seats and 238 economy class seats. The company will provide special introductory offers to customers until September 10.
