Switches tone and strategy.
In a rare change of tone and strategy, Republican Donald Trump said he regrets some of the comments that he has made during the heat of his presidential campaign.
“Some times in the heat of debate and speaking on a multitude of issues, you don’t choose the right words; or you say the wrong thing. I have done that. And believe it or not, I regret it,” Trump said. “I do regret it. Particularly where it may have caused personal pain.”
Trump continued: “Too much is at stake for us to be consumed with these issues. But one thing I can promise you this: I will always tell you the truth.”
Presidential candidate’s (R) “regret” is chiefly attributed to recent shake-up in his campaign team. Trump-fort is now managed by Kellyanne Conway. The new manager was quick to suggest several changes, foremost being the words that the Republican nominee was using to put his messages. Next, she suggested, was to stick to the discussion by reading from a teleprompter. Impromptu speeches were proving self-damaging, according to several opinion polls.
“We’re going to make sure Donald Trump is comfortable about being in his own skin, that he doesn’t lose that authenticity that you simply can’t buy and a pollster can’t give you. And voters know if you’re comfortable in your own skin,” Conway said according to a report by CNN.
Conway added: “And let him be him in this sense: He wants to deliver the speech, if he wants to go to a rally, if he wants to connect with the crowd in a way that’s very spontaneous, that’s wonderful. And that’s how he got here . . . But at the same time, we have some really serious, pressing problems in this country that I’m hoping will start to be addressed more by the media.”
With just 81 days to the Election Day, the first States are preparing for early voting beginning in five weeks.
Although, Trump won the Republican nomination through his abrasive and insensitive style of speech, and his daughter, Ivanka Trump, too, touted her father as a “political outsider” but this strategy, apparently, ceased to pay dividends as campaign gets closer to the Election Day.
Clinton’s campaign team was quick to respond. They brushed his regret as a well-written statement “from his prepared remarks”. Christina Reynolds, Deputy Communications Director, Hillary for America, in her response said:
“Donald Trump literally started his campaign by insulting people. He has continued to do so through each of the 428 days from then until now, without shame or regret. We learned tonight that his speechwriter and teleprompter knows he has much for which he should apologize. But that apology tonight is simply a well-written phrase until he tells us which of his many offensive, bullying and divisive comments he regrets – and changes his tune altogether.”
The statement was followed by a list of instances where the Republican rival abused, as a “refresher” of his insults.
The 70-year-old old billionaire’s contrition comes after a series of opinion-polls forecast Clinton’s lead. Whether or not his “regret” would show any tangible impact on the electorates would be clear in the next few weeks, after he enunciates his thoughts in discussions that follow. Trump brashness has embarrassed many of his supporters, already.

Trump saying he regrets doing and saying things is not the same as repentance or saying he is sorry for the things he has said and/or done to others. Trump can regret the blowback form crooked Trump University, but that does not mean he is sorry for bilking thousands of people out of their hard-earned money.
Trump has said that he has said things he regrets things said in the “heat of debate” but he wasn’t debating when he viciously attacked Cruz’s wife, stoked horrible conspiracy theories about Cruz’s father (when no one forced him to do this).
Trump wasn’t debating when he said that you “gotta treat women like @#$%” (Politico).
Trump wasn’t debating when he said that women are basically a piece of @ss to him (Politico).
Trump wasn’t debating when he mocked a disabled person.
Trump wasn’t debating when he said ” I have black guys counting my money. … I hate it. The only guys I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes all day.” (Politico).
And on and on it goes. Trump made serious changes when he brought in Breitbart’s Bannon and Kellyanne Conway, and said he “wants to win”. That is what all of his non-apology, apologies are all about: winning.
