The online system of petitioning the White House is an initiative of the President Obama.
A Petition on the official website of the White House asking for Pakistan to be declared as a state sponsor of terrorism has crossed 100,000 signatures and qualified to get a response from the Obama administration, according to Indian media.
Created by Indian Americans on September 21, this petition has become the third most popular petition on the White House with nearly 110,000 people signing the petition. The Obama administration is expected to respond to it within 60 days.
The petition states declaring Pakistan as a state sponsor of terrorism is ‘important to the people of United State of America, India and many other countries which are continuously affected by Pakistan sponsored terrorism.â€
This closely follows the move by two US lawmakers who had introduced legislation in the US Congress aimed at designating Pakistan as a state sponsor of terrorism.
Congdressman Ted Poe, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Terrorism, along with Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, introduced the bill in the House of Representatives.
“It is time we stopped paying Pakistan for its betrayal and designate it for what it is: a state sponsor of terrorism,†said Poe.
The online system of petitioning the White House is an initiative of the US President Barack Obama named “We the People†that provides a window to American citizens to campaign before the administration on a particular issue. It mostly uses for issues ranging from local, national and international issues. The website promises a response from the White House within 60 days if 100,000 signatures gathered on a petition within 30 days.
The pressure on Pakistan has been mounting on almost every front with US repeatedly urging the country to crackdown on terrorism originating from its soil. In the wake of the Uri attack, Pakistan even faces the risk of being isolated by the international community.
