Police arrested the culprits after a social worker filed a complaint with a video of the incident.
A 75-year-old woman from Andheri was allegedly tortured by her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter three months ago.
The DN Nagar police on Thursday arrested trio after social worker Sundari Thakur of Nari Samman Sanghathan (NSS, Women Respect Foundation) approached them with a video of the incident.
In the video, the accused Surendra Vaid can be seen physically torturing his mother Mayadevi. His wife Babita is seen helping him whiles the daughter allegedly recording the clip. The son can be seen by trying to strangle his mother and tying her legs to a fan with a saree. Mayadevi was into sanitary work and all her family members too are in the same profession. They are residents of a building in Shitladevi Sahakari society on the new Andheri link road.
Police registered FIR under sections 354 (criminal force on a woman outraging her modesty), 342 (wrongful confinement), 336 (act endangering personal safety of others), 506 (criminal intimidation), 223 (Escape from confinement or custody negligently suffered by public servent), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 34 (common intention) of the IPC.
Surendra has been sent to police custody for a day while the two women have been sent to judicial custody by Andheri’s magistrate court. The accused told the court that they want to scare her because she keeps leaving home and getting lost. The video was said to be shot in July.
Dhanaji Nalawade, senior inspector, D N Nagar police station, said the reason for Mayawati’s assault was being probed.
