The legend of India’s external affairs minister continues to grow.
India’s External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj once again has shown remarkable alacrity in giving a helping hand to those who reach out to her. This time, she’s helping a young man from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, to get married to a girl from Pakistan.
Naresh Tewani from Jodhpur is planning to tie the knot with Priya Bachchani, who is based in Karachi, in a month. But, the Indian Embassy in Karachi has not issued the travel documents to Bachchani and her relatives as tension prevails between India and Pakistan in the wake of Uri terror attack.
Desperate, Tewani sought the help of the foreign minister on Twitter. As usual, Swaraj noticed the tweet and offered to help the young man. “Pl do not worry. We will issue the Visa (sic),” she said on Twitter.
“The minister has been quite responsive to tweets by people in trouble and they have received aid from her. Seeing her willingness to resolve the troubles of those in need, we have knocked on her twitter account,” Tewani said.
“The applications for visas for the family of the bride were filed well in time about 3 months back. We assumed that the documents would be issued in time,” he added.
At one point, the groom’s family had to stop wedding preparations and focus on the visa issue to make sure that the groom and her family members would be issued the travel documents on time.
“It was my long-cherished dream to have a Pakistani bride for my son since my visit to Pakistan in 2001, considering the resemblance in culture and traditions between the two countries. But given the circumstances, I was afraid that the realization of this dream might take longer,” the groom’s father Kanhaiya Lal said.
