More states to legalize marijuana
Use of marijuana is legal in many states in the US while some states are lining up to join these states in legalizing the use of marijuana. In the meanwhile, a new trend is taking root in the industry as marijuana dining is gaining popularity among those using the drug.
According to a report by Associated Press, the chefs and marijuana growers are trying novel methods to combine food with the drug as competition is getting tougher in the industry.
“We talk with the (marijuana) grower to understand what traits they saw in the marijuana … whether it’s earthy notes, citrus notes, herbal notes, things that we could play off,” Corey Buck, head of catering for Blackbelly Restaurant in Colorado, where use of marijuana is legal, told AP.
With more and more players entering the market and demand is showing an upward trend, the flavors and effects of marijuana may be treated like wine profiles in the near future itself.
“It’s still looked down upon as a not-very-sophisticated thing,” said Alex Perry, a pot grower.
“If I asked my mom or my dad what they smell, they’re going to say, ‘skunk,’ or, ‘It smells like marijuana.’ But it’s like wine or anything else. There’s more flavor profile there,” he added.
From starter to dessert, marijuana is served along with dinner in many restaurants in Colorado. Service of professionals too is available in these restaurants to help the customers enjoy the meal.
But, the industry is facing some difficulties as marijuana retailers cannot serve food. So, guests have to bring food items from outside and the retailer will help them blend the flavor of marijuana with the food item.
Soon, more states are likely to decide on legalizing the use of weed. Denver will take a decision on allowing marijuana use at some bars and restaurants this year. California and Maine are also moving in the same direction.
