Manipulation tore artery leading to brain.
Playboy model Katie May died of an injury caused by a neck manipulation by a chiropractor, reported CBS Local. According to Los Angeles Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter, a chiropractor manipulated the 34-year-old model’s neck leading to an injury that caused her death.
The manipulation injured May and tore an artery leading to the brain and blocked blood circulation. May’s father, Joe May, and sister Jenny McKerrow have confirmed the news.
“I would have never in a million years have thought I would lose my baby sister to something like this. You have a vibrant, healthy single mom, who was at the brink of stardom, who lost her life. It’s heartbreaking,†Jenny McKerrow told CBS local.
Though the family hasn’t taken a decision on taking legal action against the chiropractor, it is hopeful of preventing someone else having the same fate by making the issue a matter of public discourse.
May had tweeted about her pinched nerve in the neck and said she was going to consult a chiropractor just a few days before her death in February this year. She suffered a stroke after a few days and died early February after undergoing a treatment on life support for some days.
Experts are of the opinion that some pre-existing conditions may make the health condition of the patient worse when undergoes a treatment by a chiropractor.
“Chiropractic is very safe. I do it to my little children. I do it to my mom, who’s almost 90 years old. I do it to all my patients,†said Jeffrey Benton of the California Chiropractic Association.
“There are more deaths to opioid medications than there are to chiropractic manipulations,†he added.
May was one of the most followed models online. She had more than 2 million followers on Instagram. She is survived by a seven-year-old daughter Mia.
