The cost of one wet grinder is close to $7476.
A Michigan-based food manufacturing firm owned by an Indian American has ordered for 100-lite tilting wet grinders from Coimbatore as he is currently unable to meet the demand for idli and dosa batter.
Dosa and Idli are two typical South Indian breakfast recipes made of fermented batter that chiefly contain rice and black gram. Even though a South Indian diet, Dosa, and Idli are popular all over the Indian subcontinent.
According to reports, Yem Food, a Michigan-based food manufacturing company run by Indian American Pradeepan Srinivasan, has ordered for a custom made wet grinder from Trident Engineering – a Coimbatore-based engineering firm that normally manufacturers patented tilting wet grinders with capacity ranging from five liters to 40 liters.
Trident Engineering Managing Partner K Selvaraj told that it is the first time that his company is designing a 100-liter tilting wet grinder.
Yem Foods is one of the few manufacturers in the US to produce Idli and Dosa batter in high volumes and over the years, the demand for the batter has increased to a level that supply cannot meet the demand. As a result of this, Pradeepan has given orders for four mass grinders, which will be sent to Michigan soon.
According to Selvaraj, the wet grinders will be made under the ‘Make in India’ program. He also added that a single machine can produce 100-liter batter in the matter of an hour without the machine getting heated.
The company has also confirmed that it has received orders for two 100-litre grinders from Dubai and four from Bengaluru. The cost of one wet grinder is close to $7476. Fifty-percent of all grinders manufactured by Trident Engineering are exported to around 15 countries.
Latest statistics show that the number of Indian Americans in the US is on the rise and will play a decisive role in the upcoming election. Apart from the political sphere, the exponential increase of in the number of Indians is also putting bigger stakes in the food industry as there is a growing demand for authentic Indian dishes.
