Matt Harrigan warned he was getting a sniper rifle.
Matt Harrigan, the CEO and President of PacketSled, a cybersecurity firm based in San Diego, California, was recently fired after posting death threats against president-elect Donald Trump on social media.
Harrigan, the cybersecurity firm’s former CEO, gained the attention of Reddit users on Sunday when a few comments he had written on Facebook were posted to the site, reported Fortune.
The comments were perceived as death threats by some of Trump’s supporters, some of whom took to the subreddit page “/r/The_Donald†asking that people call the Secret Service to report Harrigan.
Comments that worried the redditors included “I’m going to kill the president. Elect [sic],†“Bring it secret service,†and “getting a sniper rifle and perching myself where it counts.†One post claimed that Harrigan had ties to the CIA, pointing to a picture he had posted with former CIA director James Woolsey.
The Daily Beast reported another comment suggested he would get a sniper rifle and perch himself near the presidential residency.
“Find a bedroom in the whitehouse [sic] that suits you motherfucker. I’ll find you.†Harrigan posted the comments in response to the election results.
The CEO was placed on administrative leave by PacketSled shortly after the posts became wide-spread. In a statement on PacketSled’s website, Harrigan explained that the statements were “intended to be a joke… and only privately shared as such.†The apology has since been removed, but a new post stating that the board of directors has “accepted the resignation of President and CEO Matthew Harrigan, effective immediately†was put on the site.
