HBO topped the network with the highest number of nominations.
With a month left for the jury to announce the winners of this year’s’ Golden Globe Awards – the 74th ceremony – early reports suggest that American comedy-drama “La La Land” could bag major awards when awards are announced on January 8, 2017, 5:00 PM.
Hollywood Foreign Press Association announces the Golden Globes Awards every year to honor excellence in film and television industry.
“La La Land” has received nominations for seven categories including best picture, best director and best actor and actress for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, respectively.
“La La Land” is a musical romantic movie that revolves around the relationship between two lovers in Los Angeles who are performers by profession.
The movie is a romantic musical comedy-drama film written and directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, John Legend and Rosemarie DeWitt.
Among other competitors for the best movie category are “Manchester By The Sea” and “Moonlight”, “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Hell or High Water” and “Lion.”
Next in the queue is the movie “Moonlight” with 6 nominations including for best director and best supporting actor for Naomie Harris and Mahershala Ali. Moonlight is an American drama film written and directed by Barry Jenkins, starring Trevante Rhodes, André Holland, Janelle Monáe, Ashton Sanders, Jharrel Jerome, Naomie Harris and Mahershala Ali.
Third in the list is the American drama film “Manchester By The Sea” directed and written by Kenneth Lonergan, starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams, Kyle Chandler, Gretchen Mol and Lucas Hedges.
“Manchester By The Sea,” tells the story of a family struggling to cope with a tragedy. The movie has received five nominations and is one of the top contenders for this year’s Golden Globe Award.
The best actor award is all set to see some very close competition as Casey Affleck, Joel Edgerton, Andrew Garfield, Viggo Mortensen and Denzel Washington will keep their fingers crossed till the final announcement. On the other hand, Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain, Isabelle Huppert, Ruth Negga and Natalie Portman are contending for the best actress category.
One of the biggest blockbuster in Hollywood in 2016, “Deadpool” is also a key competitor for this year’s Golden Globe as it has got multiple nominations including that of best picture in the comedy/musical category, vying against “La La Land,” “20th Century Women, “Florence Foster Jenkins” and “Sing Street.”
Coming to the Television awards, the popular series “The People v O J Simpson: American Crime Story” leads the race with five nominations, including the nomination for limited series aka TV Movie.
The other series that compete in this category are “American Crime,” “The Dresser,” “The Night Manager” and “The Night Of.”
Receiving more than 14 nominations in different categories, HBO topped the network with the highest number of nominations, followed by FX with nine.
The nominations for the best TV series went to “The Crown,” “Game of Thrones,” Stranger Things, “This Is Us” and “Westworld.”
The nominations for the Best TV Series in the Musical or Comedy category went to “Atlanta,” “Blackish,” “Mozart In The Jungle,” “Transparent” and “Veep.”
“Kubo and the Two Strings,” “Moana,” “My Life as a Zucchini,” “Sing,” “Zootopia” and “Trolls” were nominated for the best animated feature film.
