Police say Indian American teen was racing when he rammed speeding truck into Indian woman

An Indian American teenager, whose pickup truck rammed into an India-born woman in Florida on December 8, was racing with another car, the local ABC affiliate reported. Madhav Sood lost control of the truck and killed Priya Pachauri, 31, also an Indian American.

The police arrested Sood a week after the accident from Lake Mary and he was charged with street racing, and striking and killing Pachauri who was walking on the sidewalks.

According to Lake Mary police, Pachauri was walking on the sidewalks near the Lake Emma Road when the speeding truck rammed into her.

According to the report of WFTV Orlando, the truck had three other passengers when it veered off the road before hitting Pachauri and crashing into the guard rail, blowing away a whole section.

The police confirmed that the teen was over speeding, way beyond the permissible speed, when the vehicle lost control.

The police also confirmed that none of the passengers inside the truck, including Sood were hurt in the accident despite the car overturning. Police said that the incident is a case of vehicular homicide.

Sood was taken to a juvenile justice center.

Wesh.com reported that the brother-in-law of Priya Pachauri has demanded justice, calling it a brutal crime.

Dewansh Pachauri in a facebook post said the driver’s “irresponsible behavior should be punished.”

“Priya was a beautiful heart, a lovely wife, great sister who left his only brother in tears. She lost her precious life at such a young age by just walking on side walk ?? This makes us hard to believe that someone can take your life simply like this? This incident should not be left unseen, unnoticed and unattended, this brutal crime and irresponsible behavior should be punished if we want to keep a sense of safety and well-being in our hearts on American roads. She needs justice, she needs her soul to sit in rest. It was not her fault but she lost her life,” he added.

The police have asked to deny the teen permission to operate any and all motor vehicle if he is to get a release from juvenile custody.
