This will mark the first ever official dialogue between Trump and Modi.
For the first time as the President of the United States, Donald Trump will call Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over phone.
According to a White House press release, President will speak to Modi on Tuesday at 1 PM DC Time, which is 11:30 PM IST, marking the first ever official dialogue between the heads of two democracies.
Trump had called five other foreign leaders over the phone since he took over the charge of White House from Barack Obama on January 20.
The first to receive the call from Trump was Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau followed by Mexican Premier Pena Nieto.
Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday and on Monday he dialed the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
Modi was among the first world leaders to give a congratulatory call to Trump after his sensational victory in the November 8 election in which he defeated Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
All throughout his campaign, Trump has pushed his Indian friendly stand and many times spoke about how it is important to strengthen the relationship with India and Israel if he is elected the 45th president of the United States.
When Trump was invited to a fundraising event organized by the Republican Hindu Coalition in New Jersey where he had praised India’s fast growth rate and Modi’s bureaucratic and economic reforms.
“Under a Trump Administration, we are going to become even better friends, in fact, I would take the term better out and we would be the best friend,” Trump had told a cheering crowd of Indian-Americans in Edison, New Jersey.
“We are going to have a phenomenal future together,” Trump had said praising Modi, adding that “I look forward to working with Prime Minister Modi.”
Soon after the swearing-in ceremony of Trump, President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, issues an invitation for the Trump family to visit India.
Obama and Modi had forged a cordial relationship that helped in strengthen the US-India relationship for the last few years and the same is expected with Trump in the White House.
Adding to this, there are huge concerns over the H-1B visa policies of Trump that if implemented could negatively affect the Indian IT companies and workers. Trump’s America First approach that ensures Americans get first choice will affect thousands of Indians job aspirants.
