Paraman Radhakrishnan was taken into custody by Grand Forks police on Saturday.
India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has sought a report from the Indian Ambassador in Washington, DC, on the arrest of an Indian businessman at the Grand Forks International Airport, North Dakota.
The 53-year-old Indian Paraman Radhakrishnan was taken into custody by Grand Forks police on Saturday, when a traveller had informed a ticket agent of a bomb in Radhakrishnan’s bag.
In a series of tweets, Radhakrishnan’s wife Renu defended her husband and sought Sushma Swaraj’s intervention for the release of her husband.
“Sushmaji, my husband Paraman Radhakrishnan is an honest man with a passion for energy conservation,” Renu tweeted to the minister.
“I have asked for a report from Indian Ambassador in U.S. @IndianEmbassyUS, “ the Union Minister tweeted in response to Renu’s tweets.
According to local media reports, Radhakrishnan was about to board a flight from Grand Forks to Minneapolis – St. Paul International airport, when a bomb threat was reported at 5.14 am local time. The Indian man from Vadodara was arrested subsequently for allegedly making a bomb threat.
However, no bombs or threatening device were recovered and police have not provided details as to what might have been the motive behind the bomb scare.
