The forums will train and educate students, parents, and faculty.
New York City Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, in association with Brooklyn Defender Services, is conducting a ‘Know Your Rights Forum’ on Thursday, March 30, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. in McKinley Junior High School, Brooklyn.
Councilmember Vincent Gentle’s Office will host immigration information session that deals with subjects like immigrant rights, relief, and resources, along with services available to immigrant business owners.
NYC celebrated March 21 as Cities’ Day of Immigration Action and in the new wave of over 100 ‘Know Your Rights’ forums were announced in connection with the event. The forums, which will be held at both community and international schools, are intended to help immigrant families in these difficult and uncertain times.
The forums also train and educate students, parents, and faculty on the rights of immigrant New Yorkers, and provide information on City services, safety planning and fraud prevention.
“During a time of uncertainty for many immigrant communities, it is vital that the City deliver clear information to students and parents about our policies on law enforcement in schools and the resources available to immigrant families,” Commission of the Mayor’s office of Immigrant Affairs Nisha Agarwal said on the occasion of Cities’ Day of Immigration Action.
“The Mayor’s Office will continue to work within communities and at schools to offer students, parents and teachers Know Your Rights forums throughout the five boroughs to ensure every New Yorker is educated and connected to the help they need. NYC is the ultimate city of immigrants,” she said.
