Anand Kumar started his ‘Super 30’ program in Bihar’s Patna in 2002.
Anand Kumar, the founder of ‘Super 30’ educational program, was felicitated by the Indian American community for his efforts to help the underprivileged students.
The felicitation was organized by Bihar and Jharkhand Association of North America (BAJANA) in Washington and Federation of Indian Associations (FIA). FIA’s President Ramesh Patel, along with Vice President Alok Kumar presented a plaque to the educationalist, PTI reported.
Anand Kumar started his ‘Super 30’ program in Bihar’s Patna in 2002, which coaches economically backward students for IIT-JEE, the entrance examination for the Indian Institute of Technology.
The 44-year-old Kumar shared the idea that led to the coaching program, for which the Patna-born, hardworking mathematician is now well-known.
Every year in May, Kumar’s Ramanujan School of Mathematics holds a competitive test for select 30 students for the ‘Super 30’ scheme. He provides study materials and lodging for year and prepares them for the Joint Entrance Examination. His mother, Jayanti Devi, cooks for the students and his brother Pranav Kumar takes care of the management.
By 2016, 366 out of the 420 of his students had made to IITS and Discovery Channel showcased his work in a documentary. He has been invited by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University to speak on his globally acclaimed effort.
