Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit United States, most likely in June
President Donald Trump said on Monday that he would be “honored” to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un “under the right circumstances.”
The president’s statement came just a day after he invited Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, who justifies extra judicial killings and even called President Obama “Son of a Whore”, to Washington as a stunning surprise to both Americans as well as NATO partners.
“If it would be appropriate for me to meet with him, I would absolutely, I would be honored to do it,” President Trump toldBloomberg News in an interview. “If it’s under the, again, under the right circumstances. But I would do that.”
President, in another interview with CBS, called Kim a ‘smart cookie’ but White House soon clarifies that US would first need to see changes in North Korean behavior before a potential sit-down.
A CNN report cites a Chinese official supporting Trump’s move saying it as “the only feasible way to a denuclearized Korean peninsula as well as peace and stability there is through dialogue and construction.”
“This is also the only correct choice” CNN quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang.
However, President Trump’s actions put India’s foreign relations experts in confusion as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit United States, most likely in June.
As Trump earned the reputation of being unpredictable and off-script, Indian officials have become cautious, deliberative and phlegmatic to deal with the president, Times of India reported.
According to the report, the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Embassy have worked tirelessly to build up tempo for the visit with a series of high-level meetings and graduated visits, which is unprecedented in case of visits of other leaders to Washington.
Even the US diplomats are not sure about whether the President follows a script or not.
