Jakhar succeeded Captain Amarinder Singh.
Indian National Overseas Congress, USA (INOC) held a celebration meeting in Richmond Hill New York to congratulate newly elected President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), Sunil Kumar Jhakar.
Jhakar was appointed by All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Thursday. The incumbent Captain Amarinder Singh resigned from the post on April 12 after becoming the chief minister of the state. In February, the Congress Party won the State Assembly elections with a thumping victory.
Jakhara, who lost the Assembly elections by a small margin from Abohar constituency, is a former Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader and three-time MLA from Abohar.
The INOC, USA (Punjab Wing) welcomed Congress High Command’s decision to appoint Jakhara as PPCC’s president. The organization said in a news release that Jhakar’s appointment will strengthen the party. Jhakar was appointed after a green signal from Rahul Gandhi, and Punjab’s chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh also agreed.
INOC said that the new leadership will be able to give more support to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s administration.
“To thank the High Command and to show their jubilation over Sunil Jhakar, Sweets & Laddoo were also distributed among the participants,” said INOC in a news media statement.
Among those present at the event were George Abraham, Chairman; Mohinder Singh Gilzian, President; and Mr. Jasvir Singh, Punjab Chapter President.
