Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro was also present in the meeting
The Indian American Association of Lehigh Valley organized a meeting with local officials in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the 69 News reported on Wednesday. The event was organized as an effort to encourage religious tolerance among people from different ethnic backgrounds.
The association members spoke about the “hateful bigotry” against the Indian American community and others, and discussed how to stay safe on the streets and in schools.
One board member shared his worry regarding victimization of children based on their race or religion.
“There are sentiments in the greater society that are changing and that people feel empowered and they feel as though it’s appropriate to be prejudiced openly, and that is a trend that we have to stop,” 69 News quoted Deepak Sharma, Board Member, IAALV.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro was also present in the meeting and took questions from the audience.
