The ace Indian American attorney’s message to his own tribe: “No prosecutor should go out into the world and relish kicking the hornet’s nest.”
On the Memorial Day, former United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara flew across the pond to speak at Oxford Union Term Card Trinity and deliver a message to President Trump.
“Loyalty in law-enforcement is owed to the oath and to the public, not to any president,” Bharara said on Monday speaking on the subject “Post-Trump: Justice and the rule of law.”
The popular Indian American attorney was fired by Trump in March after he refused to resign following a request by the attorney general.
Nuggets from Bharara’s speech were posted on the official twitter handle of Oxford Union.
“If you have a point of view, if you are worried about institution in your country, you should do something,” he said.
Bharara also had a message for his own tribe: “No prosecutor should go out into the world and relish kicking the hornet’s nest.”
“In a civilized and open society, justice has to be done and it has to be seen to be done,” he added.
The Oxford Union Term Card Trinity features a wide variety of speakers and debaters from across the globe and from all different walks of life. The Union and its President Michael Li invited Bharara, along with another three additional speakers, to their varied term card lineup announced earlier this month.

Later re-tweeting the Oxford Union’s tweet on the issue of loyalty of law-enforcement official, Bharara wrote: “I’d like to think everyone can agree on this.”
The Indian American also thanked the Oxford Union “for such hospitality.”
I'd like to think everyone can agree on this. Thanks again to the @OxfordUnion for such hospitality. https://t.co/3kR1gumfRG
