The incident happened on Tuesday, June 6
A 23-year-old man in Chicago’s Loop was arrested last week after a racially-charged fight at a Starbucks on West Lake Street.
The incident happened on Tuesday, June 6, and a video surfaced online shows a white man spitting at a black man, calling him and his children “disposable vermin,” and calling another black man a slave.
The man in the light-colored suit, William Boucher became angry when someone spilled a beverage on him shortly after 2.30 p.m. The confrontation then moved outside the shop and Boucher spat on a 30-year-old man who was recording him and a 34-year-old woman, CNN reported.
Boucher also punched another man who approached him and continued to hurl racial slurs saying, “Shut up, slave! Do not talk to me!
“Get on all four right now. …Do not walk off on two legs,” he said to an unidentified black man and told another that “Your children are disposable vermin.”
Boucher then tried to walk away from the spot, but the other bystanders held him until police arrived.
He has been charged with three counts of misdemeanor battery and scheduled to appear in court on July 5.
The 59-year-old man who was punched was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for the treatment of an eye injury.
“We have absolutely no tolerance for this type of behavior in our stores, and are grateful to the partners (employees) and customers who stepped in to help until officers arrived,” said a Starbucks spokesperson, the news channel reported.
