Suspect is being interrogated under FBI custody
An incident of terror has been reported at the Michigan Airport on Wednesday, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed that the perpetrator of the attack has been taken into custody and is being interrogated.
According to Xinhua news agency, the police have arrested the suspect identified as 50-year-old Amor Ftouhi, a Canadian resident. They also confirmed that Ftouhi is the lone suspect.
David Gelios, FBI Chief Investigator revealed that Ftouhi entered the US on June 16. He also said that Ftouhi shouted, “Allahu Akbar “or” Allah is the greatest,” before unleashing the attack on Officer Jeff Neville using his 30 cm knife at the Bishop International Airport in Flint.
Neville, who later underwent a surgery for his injury is recuperating in the hospital and his condition is reported to be satisfactory.
FBI has said that the suspect is being interrogated under their custody and also confirmed that their Canadian counterpart is assisting in each stage of the investigation.
The CCTV footages collected from the Airport shows Ftouhi arriving on Wednesday morning, spending time on the first floor and later going to a restaurant on the second floor after which he emerged from the restroom with a knife, stabbing Officer Neville in his neck.
Eyewitnesses also said they heard Ftouhi yelling something like “you have killed people in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan” and “we are all going to die.”
