The American broadcast television network The CW has decided to develop the dramedy Make Divya Great Again written by Indian American writer Devanshi Patel.
Make Divya Great Again tells the story of an Indian American woman trying to clear her name of being a murder suspect of her ex-fiance, who met with an accidental death.
The woman invents a perfect Indian boyfriend after her parents, who clinch on to traditional Indian norms, pressurize her to get married in an arranged setup, which is still prevalent in India.
Her tactics to circumvent the marriage and to come clean from the darkly comic death of her ex-boyfriend puts the protagonist in situations that derail her life forever.
“I’m not making America great again, but CBS and CW are helping me Make Divya Great Again!,” wrote Devanshi Patel on Facebook on Sunday.
The CW is a joint venture between CBS Corporation, and Warner Bros. Entertainment.
The husband and wife team, Eric and Kim Tannenbaum, will executive produce the dramedy along with CBS Television Studios.
Patel, who is a comedy writer at Disney/ABC Television Group in Burbank, California, was earlier the staff writer of TBS’ Ground Floor and ABC’s Black-ish.
