A high school teacher has been arrested after she allegedly had sex with a 16-year-old student at a Pennsylvania nature preserve.
According to reports, 28-year-old Alyssia Reddy is accused of having a sexual relationship with her 16-year-old high school student and she is also accused of sending the minor a series of lewd messages via Snapchat.
The incident happened during the time Reddy was teaching at the Pennington School, Pennington, New Jersey. She later moved to a school in Maryland and relocated herself to Baltimore, MD,-area.
She was taken into custody after Solebury Township Police sought the assistance of Baltimore County, Maryland Police Fugitive Task Force.
Reddy is facing charges under institutional sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, criminal use of a communication facility and corruption of a minor.
She is currently facing extradition to Pennsylvania and till then she is detained at Baltimore City facility.
Solebury Township Police received a complaint on November 20, 2017, that alleged the English teacher of sexually assaulting a minor student at a park along Route 32 (River Road) Solebury Township, in the spring of 2017.
Solebury Township Police Department was assisted by the Mercer County (NJ) Prosecutor’s Office (Special Victim’s Unit), Bucks County District Attorney’s Office (Detectives), Baltimore County Maryland Police Department (Fugitive Task Force and Crimes Against Children Unit).
According to People Magazine, Reddy established a relationship with the teen in December 2016 and gave him her phone number and added him to her Snapchat. According to the affidavit filed against Reddy, she initially sent him messages stating that she is attracted to him and later wrote “I want your hands on me.”
According to the statement given by the affected minor, Reddy unexpectedly showed up in his friend’s house when he went for a visit and took him to a nearby parking lot of a nature preserve and “climbed on top” and “pulled down her pants” and they had sex.
Penny Evins, the head of St. Paul’s School – a private independent day school in Baltimore, said to People Magazine that Reddy was terminated last week after her arrest and is banned from entering the campus.
“This news is deeply disturbing to all of us and saddens us,” Evins said in a letter to the school community, which was provided by St. Paul’s School for Girls. “Before today, we had no information suggesting any prior improper conduct by Mrs. Reddy.”
The Pennington School sent out a message to parents on Friday afternoon.
The letter said school authorities were “recently made aware of an alleged inappropriate relationship involving a former Upper School teacher of The Pennington School in the 2016-17 school year” and that it is “cooperating with law enforcement.”
“As is our policy, the matter was promptly reported to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s office,” the message reads. “The School has a strong ongoing commitment to the safety, health, and wellness of all students … The School has a process in place to encourage any community member who might have been subjected to or who may be aware of misconduct by a faculty or staff member to come forward and share that information.”
