Actress Priyanka Chopra has been honored with this year’s Mother Teresa Award for social justice.
Chopra has been invited by the Harmony Foundation to receive the award. She got the award for her social activities. Her interaction with the refugee children in Syria as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, made her receive this award.
Earlier, Chopra visited the Syrian refugee camp in Jordan and spent some time with the young refugees in a school. After that visit, she was trolled for visiting the camp. In one of the tweets, a user asked her why she had not visited “rural areas of India where malnourished kids waiting for food.”
In the absence of Priyanka Chopra, Madhu Chopra, her mother collected the award for her. Chopra is currently busy with her shoot in New York City.
“I humbly accept the award on her behalf. As a mother, I am immensely proud to have a child who is so compassionate and has so much kindness in her. She exemplifies the fact the more you give, the more you get,” Madhu Chopra said. “Even as a child, she was influenced by Mother Teresa and has been supporting Prem Niwas in Bareilly.”
A few days back, Chopra revealed that she will celebrate her Christmas in India with her family and friends. On her Instagram account, she said she will fly to India on December 15.
Currently, Chopra is busy with the shoot of Quantico 3. Her upcoming Hollywood movie A Kid Like Jake has recently got an entry into Sundance Film Festival that will be held in January 2018. Besides A Kid Like Jake, her movie Is’nt It Romantic? is also getting ready to release.
