The most popular messaging service WhatsApp will stop its application on some selected smartphones after December 31.
The company has informed that it will stop its working on some platforms from January 1, 2018, onward. WhatsApp will stop its support for smartphones like ‘BlackBerry OS’, ‘BlackBerry 10’, and ‘Windows Phone 8.0’.
The company said the users who are using these smartphones will not be able to create new accounts once the company ends its support. It added that the users will not lose their access to their WhatsApp account. They can continue using their app on their phone, but they will not get any updates or new features of Whats App.
“We will no longer actively develop for these platforms, some features may stop functioning at any time,” WhatsApp said, TechGear12 reported.
Reportedly, the app will stop its function for Nokia S40 too from December 31, 2018. Earlier, WhatsApp had already stopped its function on Nokia phones running Symbian S60 in June 2017.
Recently the manufacturers of Blackberry has already confirmed that they are not launching any new smartphones. But the new BlackBerry brand phones are now manufactured by China-based TCL and powered by Android OS. In 2018, the support for Windows 8 will go down, but WhatsApp will continue its support for Windows 8.1.
“These platforms don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer OS version, or to a newer Android running OS 4.0+, iPhone running iOS7+, or Windows Phone 8.1+ so that you can continue using WhatsApp,” the company said.
