Nikki Haley says Trump affair rumor is ‘highly offensive,’ ‘disgusting’

Rumor was triggered by “Fire and Fury” author Michael Wolff during an appearance on “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley has denied having an affair with President Donald Trump, saying that the chatter was “highly offensive” and “disgusting.”

The rumor machine went into overdrive after journalist Michael Wolff, who recently published a blockbuster book on the inner workings of the Trump administration in its early days, hinted on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” that the president and his chief UN diplomat are having an affair, without naming Haley.

“Now that I’ve told you, when you hit that paragraph, you’re gonna say, ‘Bingo,’” the “Fire and Fury” author told Maher.

Wolff wrote in the book that, “Haley—‘as ambitious as Lucifer,’ in the characterization of one member of the senior staff—had concluded that Trump’s tenure would last, at best, a single term, and that she, with requisite submission, could be his heir apparent.”

Haley told Politico’s Women Rule podcast that such insinuations were the result of resentment form a small section of men who don’t like strong women.

“The president had been spending a notable amount of private time with Haley on Air Force One and was seen to be grooming her for a national political future,” Wolff wrote in the book.

Haley said that the assertion was “absolutely not true” and that she had “literally been on Air Force One once and there were several people in the room when [she] was there.”

She added: “He says that I’ve been talking a lot with the president in the Oval about my political future. I’ve never talked once to the president about my future and I am never alone with him.”

Haley said the insinuation is similar to such attacks that a lot of successful women are subjected to.

Haley recalled that she was the subject of such rumors before. She said: “I saw this as a legislator. I saw this when I was governor. I see it now. I see them do it to other women. And the thing is, when women work, they prioritize, they focus, and they believe if you’re gonna to something, do it right.”
