Indian American Senator Vin Gopal of Monmouth County New Jersy has been appointed as the Senate Majority Conference Leader and Chairman of the Bipartisan Legislative Manufacturing Caucus by Senate President Steve Sweeney on Wednesday, April 4.
After being appointed to the new posts, Gopal took to Twitter to express his gratitude to Steve Sweeney. “I am honored & grateful to Steve Sweeney for entrusting me to serve as Senate Majority Conference Leader & as Chairman of the bipartisan Legislative Manufacturing Caucus,” he tweeted. “I am very excited to take on these new roles within the Senate and the responsibilities that accompany them. I look forward to working with my talented colleagues to serve the people of New Jersey and improve this great state.
In addition to Gopal, the Senate President also appointed Patrick J. Diegnan as the new Chairman of the Sen. Transportation Committee and Sen. Troy Singleton as the new Chairman of the Senate’s Military & Veterans Affairs Committee.
Gopal congratulated his fellow appointees saying, “Congratulations to my fellow appointees Senator Patrick Diegnan and Senator Troy Singleton. These men are extremely talented and capable legislators. Their appointments are very well earned.”

Gopal was the first Democrat to win the 11th District in New Jersy that includes Colts neck, Asbury Park, Deal, Eatontown, Freehold, Long Branch, Neptune, Ocean Township, Red Bank, Shrewsbury and Tinton Falls. He defeated incumbent Sen. Jennifer Beck by earning 31,000 votes, winning by a margin of over 4000 votes.
Gopal’s father Krishna Gopal and mother Indu Gopal migrated to the US in the 70s from India. His father is a native of Vaikom, Kerala, and his mother is from Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu.
