This year’s film festival has a complete line up of 78 films from 11 different languages
The New York Indian Film Festival has announced that it will screen seven national award-winning Indian movies during its annual film festival to be held from May 7 to 12 in Manhattan.
The National Film Awards is a premier award presented by the government of India to films and people working in the film industry.
According to the organization’s press release, the movies To-Let – Best Tamil Film; Addayi – Best Tulu Film, Ishu – Best Assamese Film, Mayurakshi – Best Bengali Film, Take Off – Best Production Design & Special Mention for the film and lead actress Parvathy, Maacher Jhol (The Fish Curry) – Best Animation Film (short) and Eye Test – Best Cinematography (short) will be screened during the festival, which is one of the biggest community film festivals in the United States.

This year’s film festival has a complete line up of 78 films from 11 different languages including English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Tulu, Konkini, Bengali, and Assamese.
The highlights of this year’s NYIFF are four world premieres, two international premieres, six North American premiers, one US premiere and 11 New York premieres from four South Asian countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka as well as North America and the United Kingdom.
This year’s festival will open with the premiering of Ravi Jadhav’s Marathi film Nude and end with the biopic of Omar Saeed Sheikh, Omerta directed by veteran director Hansal Mehta. The star attraction of the event will be a Konkani film titled Juze directed by Miransha Naik.

Shashi Kapoor starring Shakespeare Wallah and Heat and Dust – both directed by this year’s Academy Award-winning director James Ivory will be screened as a tribute to the actor who passed away last year.
As a tribute to Bollywood’s maiden woman superstar Sridevi, who passed away in Dubai earlier this year, the festival will screen English Vinglish, which shows the determination of an Indian housewife who travels to the United States and defies oddities of an alien society to prove herself and the family that she deserves dignity that was denied.
